Why have we opted for a bamboo NFC business card?
Traditional paper business cards are becoming less sought after in a world where sustainability is paramount. Deforestation caused by the production of paper contributes to around 10% of the world’s global warming, so on the road towards a more sustainable future, reducing paper usage is one of the many actions which needs to be taken. It is estimated that each year 100 billion business cards are printed out and around 80% of all business cards passed to another person are thrown away within seven days. Here at E.S.G. Solutions, we recognise the importance of minimising environmental degradation and maximising our sustainable practices, so to help reduce our paper consumption, we have opted for an easy yet important fix; strong, durable and reusable bamboo business cards.
Our new business cards, provided by V1CECONNECTIONS, look like a traditional paper business card, but without all of the negative externalities. Using enhanced NFC technology, information can be swiftly exchanged by tapping any Apple or Android phone onto one of our cards, instantly allowing you to add us to your contacts and see all relevant contact information with minimal effort. For the less modern phones, there is also an option to scan a QR code taking you to the same online page. This quick and easy way of sharing contact details also jettisons the risks of paper cards becoming lost or damaged and hence unusable and wasteful. Moreover every time information is exchanged we can keep track of statistics and insight about who has tapped our business cards!
By using our reusable bamboo cards, we are helping the planet by using less paper which, if done at a great scale through others following suit, will aid in minimising deforestation. You may be thinking, ‘but how is cutting down bamboo sustainable?’, so we will explain. The great thing about bamboo is that it is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Dissimilar to standard trees, some species of bamboo complete their life cycle in as little as three to five years allowing for more frequent harvesting and replanting, typically every year or two, without harming the plant, making it an extremely sustainable material to use. Another benefit of bamboo is that it can grow in a variety of soil types and requires minimal water and so it is still able to thrive in conditions of drought and water scarcity.
The material of our new business cards is not the only benefit of the switch to a long-lasting card. From a financial perspective, the investment in one durable business card will be more cost-effective in the long term as it eliminates the need for re-purchasing, re-printing and distributing paper cards every time staff change their contact details or their job title, and from a practicality perspective, business cards whereby all of the information you are aiming to share is online are more convenient because any changes can easily be updated.
E.S.G. Solutions are extremely happy with and proud of our new business cards, and we hope that others will be encouraged to make the important switch to enhanced NFC-technology bamboo business cards in the future.
