GRESB Peer Group Customization closes in two days!
For all GRESB participants
Please note that the peer group customization period for the 2025 Real Estate Assessment will close on Friday, August 15th.
The “Customized Peer Group” functionality for Real Estate Participants has been live in the GRESB Portal since 1st August 2025 to allow GRESB participants to review their predefined peer group as allocated by GRESB, and – if desired – create a different peer group based on self-selected criteria such as location, property type, fund size, and more. The ranking for the customized peer group is displayed alongside the GRESB predefined peer group in the Benchmark Report.
If you wish to tailor a peer group to better align with your strategic benchmarking goals, please ensure all changes are completed before the deadline. You may also delete a customized peer group at any time during the customization window (August 1–15) if it no longer meets your needs.
To ensure the Customized Peer Group appears in the Benchmark Report, it must be confirmed in the final step (“Review Constituents”). If you edit a previously confirmed Customized Peer Group, you will need to confirm it again after editing. For guidance on how to confirm your selection, please refer to the FAQ section on the GRESB website.
Customized peer groups that contain the exact same constituents as a predefined peer group may not be displayed in the Benchmark Report as this would result in duplicated information. - Option to start fresh or reuse the previous year’s criteria selection
- Ability to delete the customized peer groups (during the customization period)
These improvements make it easier to compare portfolios to the most relevant peer groups — enabling GRESB participants to tailor peer comparisons to better support your strategic approach.
Why customize your Peer Group?
Introduced in 2024 following a pilot in 2023, Customized Peer Groups enable more tailored and strategic benchmarking. In 2024, over 40% of real estate participants used the feature to:
- Contextualize performance using criteria that align with their investment strategy
- Highlight performance within a more selective or relevant peer set
- Demonstrate positioning within a broader or more targeted group

While customizing your peer group, be sure to also explore the Asset Analytics tab — now live in the GRESB Portal. Real estate participants can now access asset-level data earlier than ever before, gaining a powerful opportunity for deeper analysis, engagement, and strategic planning ahead of the Assessment Correction window in September and final results in October.
You can choose when (and if) to share this data with investors — now, in October, anytime in between, or not at all.
